Self-described as "a drummer turned guitarist," Kristy Lee Burky's rhythmic instrumental arrangements are the dynamic elements that push her voice to the forefront. Equipped with stories and original songs, she brings a certain presence to the stage, engaging with audiences on an emotional, relational and spiritual level. For Kristy, music is an experience that draws people out of loneliness, leading them to a refuge of healing. Lee's intention is for audiences to find hope through her art form and discover how to emerge from the pain and chaos of life. It also serves as a platform for her to share truth about personal struggle. By acknowledging painful issues and experiences, Kristy has the opportunity to direct others to the hope that exists in following Christ despite circumstance.
In 2011, Kristy independently released the single “From the Grave”, recorded with friend and co-producer Paul Matthew in Cleveland, OH. What followed in June of 2012 was an original 7-song, stripped-down acoustic EP called "Past Beginnings", also independently released with the help of Paul Matthew. “Past Beginnings” features Kristy's gentle folk vocals, reminiscent of Dolores O' Riordan (of the Cranberries), organically paired with her rhythmic acoustic guitar.
Kristy has performed in over seventeen cities regionally, opening for national acts such as Brian Vander Ark (of the Verve Pipe), Red Wanting Blue, Ligion, Alathea, and Honor By August.
Kristy Lee Burky’s music gained fresh momentum in 2014, with the release of her first full-length album called "Pushing Forward”. The follow up to 2012’s "Past Beginnings” consists of nine songs and features strong instrumental production and harmonious background vocals. Kristy once again worked with Paul Matthew who not only co-produced the project but also co-wrote three of the tracks on the album.
“Pushing Forward” was a good step forward in her work, not only because of the musical elements but because the lyrics are full of hope reflecting the journey God has taken her on throughout her life - the message Kristy wants to spread to her audience.
In May of 2016 Kristy set out on a solo recording journey, meaning she spent hours in her own home studio self-recording and producing her whole album called "New Territory." Not without help from her musical mentor and friend Paul Matthew, she labored to show her followers the eclectic side of her original songs and guitar arrangements. It is available for purchase on Cdbaby.com as well as itunes and spotify. Kristy has found a new passion for playing her music live and has really enjoyed playing out this year. Kristy had the opportunity to play a short live set in Nashville at the end of May earlier this year and was very well received. Come see her live and you won't be disappointed!
