When We Was Young embraces rural folk and bar rock styles to celebrate whiskey soaked pursuits that listeners are sure to remember.
It was only fitting that WWWY embrace their rustic rock sound by recording their premier EP, Burn Back Down, just north of Toronto in the converted barn of Waking Life Studios. Their upcoming EP features bar friendly songs that range from mournfully Kerouacian to bemusing to insightfully real.
Forming in late 2009 at a Halloween party where a drunken Luchador approached Father Time to talk about making music, WWWY's premier show was just two months later on New Year's Eve. The duo consisting of Chris Pacella, (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Ben Elling, (bass guitar, backing vocals) were joined by David Rudoler (lead guitar, backing vocals) in 2010. In 2013, Josh Stoddart (drums, backing vocals) joined WWWY.
WWWY has played locally at The Smiling Buddha Bar, The El Mocambo, The Port, The Black Swan and further afield at AJ's Coffee House in Ferndale, Michigan. The band supports and seeks out personally meaningful causes including The Daily Bread Food Bank, Oxfam, The United Way and MusicCounts.
