The Yellowbricks, Kansas City's original Horsewhippin' rock n' roll band, formed during the winter months of 2010 when founding members Justin Kane and Jacob Temeyer came together to begin their songwriting partnership after Justin suggested the idea of starting a REAL rock n' roll band to Jacob. Jacob, frustrated with the lack of proper rock n' roll in the current musical climate, enthusiastically obliged. Thus, the Yellowbricks were born.
With guitars in hand and beavers at bay, Justin and Jacob repaired to the "swamphouse" (Jacob's residency) for a month to focus on writing songs and defining the sound and vibe of the band. It was clear from their first writing session, in which the music for two entire songs was completed in under two hours, that there was some serious musical chemistry brewin'. Excited and encouraged from the initial session they continued writing through the beginning of the new year until they felt they had a nice stock pile of rockin' songs to bring into a full band setting. Though the chill of winter prevailed outside, the hot, throbbing beaver of rock n' roll ruled in the swamphouse.
Justin had the idea of contacting Brian Christie, a former acquaintance of both Jacob and Justin from audio engineering school, to see if he wanted to be the drummer for the Yellowbricks. Brian accepted the offer and along with him brought the Bass playing sex machine that is Brad. It was immediately clear from the first full band practice that the Brian/Brad combo was a rhythm section for the ages. Shamelessly pounding the pee-whilikers (is that even a word?) out of their instruments and nailing all the new songs that Justin and Jacob could throw at them in perfect synchronicity, the two founding members were sure they'd discovered the reincarnation of the rhythm section from some mythical and legendary rock band (cough... Led Zeppelin.... cough...).
ANYWAY... talk soon began to arise of making an album and playing shows, so what happens when three out of the four members in your band are audio engineers? You don't pay a pro studio some ridiculous hourly rate.... you record the album yourself! In your drummer's basement! This IS Horsewhippin' rock n' roll after all! With that being said, the entire Yellowbricks entourage relocated themselves to Brian's basement studio and began work on their demo and debut album.
Heavily influenced by the music of the Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Rage Against the Machine, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Guns n' Roses, Jimi Hendrix, The Black Keys, The White Stripes, and The Beatles, The Yellowbricks demo "Red Beaver Tape", and first album promises to satisfy the appetites of the rock n' roll deprived masses and potentially alter the course of history forever..... well, at least the first one.
Look for the Yellowbricks at a Rock show near you!!!
