Dangerous, conceptual blues/rock from the minds of a group of San Diego natives, H.A. Perkins sets out to create a unique experience for the listener. Formed by lifelong friends and family members, the name comes from the late grandfather of two of the band's members. H.A. Perkins was a traveling business man who made his way from humble beginnings in Amarillo, Texas, through the Southwest, until ...finally settling in the mountaintop, woodsy terrain of Descanso, California. He and his brother, Charles, opened the "Perkins Corner" store in the middle 1900's.
His nomadic, entrepreneurial spirit is a good parallel to the band's music. Equal parts dry southern grit, sunshine and saltwater. Vocalist/lyricist, Spencer Jensen, has worked in the mental health field and seems to channel both the patient and the caretaker. His lyrics are scientific in their controlled experimentation, but also draw from the chaos and psychosis lurking behind any perceived normalcy. Michael Bokosky, the guitarist and a free lance web designer, approaches his craft like he's writing his own code. Bassist Brian Vilven, a man of many hats, drives the rhythm with a precision and authority normally reserved for a trapshooter. Drummer Mario Garduno and keyboardist Evan Patrick Smith provide the perfect complement to this power group.
They released their debut EP, "Celebration", in November 2011. The "Celebration" deals with themes such as death, immortality, trying to gain immortality through death, sex, appreciating your lineage and the chaos that brought you into existence, and the human ego and its evolution in the age of limitless, free, digital media.
