Revolving around Sergio Still's songwriting, The Moving Pictures were born backwards. November of 2012 found Sergio in the recording studio finally recording his album "Afterward." Needing additional players on the album, Sergio called up some old friends for a favor. The brothers Eliot (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Wes (Bass) Dewberry lent their talents to help Sergio with his album. The recording and mixing process was handled by Will Volkmann (drummer) at his own The Laboratory Studios. Spending almost a month together in the recording room, these guys were more than pleased with the outcome. The next thing to do was to play the songs live. Following the disbanding of Sergio's former drummer, Will offered his drumming services, if only for the time being.
Playing and booking shows under the band name Sergio Still & The Moving Pictures, this group took their folk-based rock act all around Los Angeles, Orange County, and Austin, TX for SXSW 2013. It was the trip to Austin that really got the band dedicated to what the sound was becoming. This was no longer a solo singer/songwriter with a backing group. This was now a working band.
The live shows are high energy and charismatic. Songs vary from up-tempo feet stompers like, "Here Come the Big Rains" to moody sways like, "Mine Will Always Be Yours," to darkly humorous songs like, "Murder Party." The Moving Pictures play for many crowds, but they guarantee to inspire and be inspired at every show. At the center are Sergio's deep, sometimes raspy, vocals and rhythm guitar. Eliot's spacy lead guitar amplifies the longing that soaks much of the lyrics. Wes' steady bass and keen ear glue it all together, while Will's intense drum playing give the group the big sound they are now being known for. Without losing any momentum, live shows have been keeping fans coming back and gaining new ones.
Dedicated to all avenues of traditional music, The Moving Pictures inhabit a space of music that is immediately recognizable while at the same time new. A sincere passion for the music is what found the band and is what keeps them together. Los Angeles is discovering what it means to be moved.
