After being infected by the Irish music virus in 1980, Johannes became an ardent student of the uilleann pipes and visited the legendary Willy Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay for a number of years receiving tuition from Ireland's foremost pipers of those days. He joined LIMERICK JUNCTION, one of the better known "Non-native" Irish Trad Bands hailing from Germany's "Ruhrgebiet", with whom he appeared at Ballyshannon Folk Festival, formed FRIEL's KITCHEN together with bandmates Jens Kommnick and Angelika Berns and later in 2004 WHISHT, a four-piece band focusing on the music of Sliabh Luachra. (www.whisht.de). Founder member of the German Uilleann Piping Society DUPG (www.dupg.net) he taught the pipes at countless workshops in Germany and Holland and guested during the Joe Mooney Summer School in Ireland. He was elected board member of Na Piobairi Uilleann - the Irish headquarters of uilleann piping - in 2009.
Current new projects:
- Baltic/celtic crossover band SkALD (www.reverbnation.com/skaldmusic)

After various productions with the aforementioned bands and many studio appointments - with Thomas Loefke & Norland Wind, Kerstin Blodig, Lecker Sachen, Yulara Mundil, Touchwood, Toynbee Hall, Tänzer's Traum, In Search of a Rose, Xandria - he is releasing his first Solo-Album "WATERGRASSHILL" on German Leiselaut-Label (www.leiselaut.com)
With the help of 23 musician friends and virtuosos of Irish Music in Germany and Holland his pipes shine in an opulent Irish/Celtic-crossover-environment including musical excursions into baroque music, to Scandinavia and the Balkans. Johannes' love for psychedelic music of the 70s is palpable througout this production by way of the use of historic synthesizers and inclusion of two songs from that era.
