Starfish Prime is a group of young musicians from Roanoke, Virginia who began playing together as friends sharing a common love for music. Soon after their beginning in 2010, they chose their name as a reference to a nuclear test conducted in the 1960s. Starfish Prime’s musical repertoire originally consisted of entirely covers, but since then they have released their first EP, White Noise, and their set is now made entirely of original material with covers sprinkled in for fun rather than necessity.
Through the years Starfish Prime has played songs from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, and many other bands, incorporating these sounds into their own unique style of alternative rock. Today, Starfish Prime creates their music with a blend of gritty electric guitars, funky bass grooves, and bright acoustic guitar.
After countless hours playing at open mic nights in downtown Roanoke, Starfish Prime is now a frequenter of the main stages of the area, playing everywhere from Kirk Avenue to the Festival in the Park.
In December of 2013 the band Released their first full length LP entitled "1962", named for the date of the nuclear testing from which the band got their name.
