I was born in Lafayette La. I grew up in Southern Cali and moved to Birmingham then Memphis. Even though I live in the big state of Texas, I still consider Memphis as my hometown. I am a BMI-affiliated songwriter (under another name). I am a former member of the Nashville Songwriters Association and the National Association of Songwriters in L.A. My family is full of musicians. My brother played drums, my sister played guitar, my father played a mean harmonica and my mother sang. All my uncles played either saxophone or trombone (one played sessions with the original Muscle Shoals (AL) Sounds + the original BoomBoom Room in B'ham) and my grandmother played piano. It’s not hard to pick up on so many different musical influences from jazz to early R&B and classic country. I liked everyone from Roy Orbison to the Doors to Poco and the list really goes on and on. I’m open to all kinds of music and I feel that as a songwriter, you must always keep an open heart and mind and really listen. Whatever draws you in and keeps you listening is what matters the most. A song tells a story and that story has to evolve around the music and lyrics. As a songwriter, I’ve written almost every type of music. This keeps you fresh and that is what distinguishes you from the others.
