Conceived, birthed and raised in central Pennsylvania, Ben Wilhelm has been playing, writing, and recording music since his mid-teens. His first organized effort in music—a post-grunge band called Spilway—had a nominal local following until its demise in 2006.
Following the end of Spilway, Ben’s musical styles have shifted from electric guitar- driven punk to acoustic folk rock. Though some songs are softer than others, this effort doesn’t have the typical singer-songwriter mellowness one might expect. Instead, it has a harder, heavier sound that some may find surprising since it’s comprised only of the basic elements—acoustic guitar, bass, and drums. In short, it’s Ani DiFranco meets Nirvana meets The Violent Femmes.
This effort is as about as DIY as it can get. Mr. Wilhelm plays all instruments on all recordings and also does all of his own production work.
