Songhooks Music / Bio

When Dwight Eisenhower ruled the White House, Roger Maki was born into a wonderful family of his parents, 2 older brothers and an older sister, Roger was the youngest member of the family. From his earliest memories, music was always playing in his home. His mom and dad kept the country music records spinning, and his brothers and sister contributed to the record collection with surf music and British invasion rock'n'roll (Beatles, Stones, Animals; etc.)

His music interest started to peak when an electric guitar and 10W amp came under the Christmas tree one year. After learning a few chords, he was hooked on guitars and music!
At age 17 he shifted his interest to bass guitar, and he spent the next two years developing his bass chops.

Roger played bass for several bands in Massachusetts from 1978 - 1998. In May of 1998, he moved his his family from Massachusetts to Arizona. This move from northeast to southwest was a major turning point for him. The natural beauty of the Desert Southwest spawned an avid interest in songwriting and recording music. Roger set up a simple but capable home recording studio in 2001. The following year 2002, he established SongHooks Music, his publishing company, and aligned with ASCAP (American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers).
Roger has released 4 CDs on the SongHooks label, available through music distributor CD Baby, and ReverbNation. 2012 marks 10 years of SongHooks, with new releases in the works.
