Jermaine Edwards / Bio

For gospel artiste, Jermaine Edwards, pleasing God is the only thing in his life that gives him complete satisfaction. Faced with the opportunity to earn more money and recognition performing secular music, he chose to continue using his talents for God. The decision inspired the song Make You Smile, which would go on to win Song of the Year at the 2010 Caribbean Gospel Marlin Awards.
Born in St. Andrew, Jamaica on July 22,1980, to Bishop Rowan Edwards and Pastor Janet Edwards of Light House Assembly, Jermaine admits that in his early years, Christian allegiance was more compliance than conviction. Like his brother and sister, he was very involved in his parent's ministry, but for many years going to church felt more like keeping an appointment than an act of true fellowship with the Divine. He hungered for intimacy with God and began a journey for a deeper relationship.
Outstanding stewardship as Minister of Music at his church, confirmed Jermaine's musical gifts and by his late teens he began to seriously explore possibilities in the music industry. Jermaine says his study of a young David and King Saul was instrumental to him embracing the call on his life. When he reflected on how melodies from David's harp chased away the evil spirits that tormented King Saul, he became convinced of the power of music and resolved to use his talents to bless others.
His first album, ISLAND WORSHIP 1: A Jamaican Experience, was a collection of traditional worship songs; well received by local and international audiences. This 2004 album was followed by ISLAND WORSHIP 2: A Closer Walk in 2006. Tracks on this second album were inspired by his quest to draw closer to God. DESTINY, his reflective sophomore album released in 2009, won three awards at the 2010 Caribbean Gospel Marlin Awards: Song of the Year for Make You Smile, Album of the Year and Reggae Vocal Performance of the Year. DESTINY also earned him nominations for Engineered Recording of the Year and Producer of the Year.
Always trendy and relevant Jermaine works hard to ensure that he and his music are accessible. He is unpretentious and says that his years without a personal relationship with God help him bridge the gap between those who have found God and those who are still searching. Keeping it Real is a central theme in his ministry. He wants his audience to know that they are not alone in their struggle and desires to reinforce them by sharing his own efforts to grow in Christ.
Jermaine is the first and only gospel artiste to be signed as a brand ambassador for the Caribbean region's leading telecommunications provider - Digicel. Having the opportunity to minister internationally Jermaine has made appearances in some of the biggest ministries like Ruach Ministries in London pastored by Bishop John Francis, Bahamas Faith Ministries International Fellowship pastored by Dr. Myles Munroe and Empowerment Temple in Baltimore USA pastored by Pastor Jamal Bryant. He has also had the opportunity to perform with gospel greats like Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Papa San the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and Tye Tribbett.
He accepts that his music is making a positive impact but takes no credit for it. Instead, he thanks God for his talents and is committed to perfecting them for greater excellence. He released his fourth album HIDEAWAY on October 1, 2011 which is doing tremendous locally and internationally.
Jermaine married his high school sweetheart, Tracylyn in 1999. Together, the couple has two daughters: Halil and Tehillah. His family is his greatest achievement.
