Two longtime friends, who used to spend their summer vacation together since they were very young, Andreas V. – guitar and Vagelis Lekos – bass, have always had a mutual need to express their love and passion for music. This need led them to the decision to form a band in 1998, alongside some other summertime friends of theirs, and cover tunes from their favourite bands. The band was eventually named after various changes “Floating Worlds”. Soon after, a friend of Andreas V. from high school, Themis Thomopoulos, joined the band as the drummer in order to compose their first songs.
After a lot of failed attempts, wrong choices and some good luck, along with the help of some session musicians (Leonidas Fasoulas – male vocals, Marina Satti – female vocals and Orestis Diamantaras – keyboards), they finally succeeded in completing their first album titled “Only A Dream, Can Kill A Dream…”, in the autumn of 2007. Despite it never being published by a record label, the album received great reviews from the press in Greece, Europe and the USA.
Following the completion of the album, the collaboration with the aforementioned session musicians had come to an end, and Andreas V. and T. Thomopoulos where the only band members left. The obvious need to promote the new album through live performances made the search for permanent band members imperative. After a lot of changes, the first gig of the “Only A Dream… Tour ’10 – ‘12”, took place on May 2010. Christina Kolliopoulou took on the keyboards, Vagelis Lekos the bass guitar, Tassos Fasoulas (brother of L. Fasoulas who was the vocalist of the album) the male vocals, Athina Kamariti the female vocals and keyboards and Sophia Assarioti the guitar.
This tour came to an end after 17 gigs, on July 2012, with a lot of lineup changes. John Doumas replaced V.Lekos (who had to leave the band due to professional issues) on the bass guitar and Jon Soti replaced T.Fassoulas, (who left the band due to personal reasons) on the male vocals. A.Kamariti and S.Assarioti also left the band due to personal reasons, so Andreas V. took on all the guitars of the band, and Christina Kolliopoulou all the keyboards and female vocals.
With this lineup, Floating Worlds entered the studio in December 2012, in order to record their second full length studio album, entitled “Below The Sea Of Light”. Their second album, was released worldwide on October 1st 2013, and received a number of really good reviews in Greece and other countries as well. They also managed to present their first official music video, for the song “Amyrah”.
On February 7th 2014, the first show of the: “Sea Of Light Tour ’14 – ‘15” in order to promote their new album: “Below The Sea Of Light”, took place in Athens, Greece. After a number of shows in Athens and some other cities in Greece as well during 2014, Themis Thomopoulos decided to leave the band for personal reasons, and was replaced by Thomas Halanoulis.
Floating Worlds will perform their first European tour, as part of the “Sea Of Light Tour ’14 – ‘15”, in February and March 2015.
