John Cannavo / Bio

John Salvatore Cannavo was born on May 25th 1959 In Easton Pa. John Cannavo began playing the Guitar in 1972. He studied the instrument under the teachings of Tom Supreese from the Berkley College of Music. Once John had a grasp of the Guitar he began a career in live and studio playing. Influenced by George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Toni Iommi, Mick Box and Jeff Beck. . Cannavo developed his own voice on the guitar combining many styles of playing His style has a wide vibrato, thick singing sustain and his use of over bending the strings and great tone adds excitement to his performance. John is mostly associated to the Fender Stratocaster, Telecaster and the Gibson Les Paul. He has been a staple in the Lehi Valley music scene since 1977 when he joined the band Landslide sharing guitar duties with Frank Nastese. In 1980 John was a founding member of the band SnoBlind which was known for their powerful guitar playing and fantastic musicianship. SnoBlind had a rigorous schedule preforming seven nights a week from New York to the New Jersey Shore. During this time John was also working in the recording studio laying down guitar tracks for radio and television. While doing studio work John was fortunate enough to become friends with and play and record with legendary Jazz drummer Bill Goodwin. Cannavo gained studio engineering credit on Bill Goodwin’s’ album project “Solar Energy”. John was also a member of other popular Lehi Valley bands, TYCE, The Businessmen The Joes and Crystal Haze and for the past 20 years he has been the sole guitarist for the variety band Paragon. John has shared the stage with a variety of famous acts such as, The Drifters, The Coasters, The Dovells, Peter Noone (Herman’s Hermits) The Orlons, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Lou Christie, Adam Ant, Laura Branigan, Joan Jett and Michael Schenker. Johns’ dedication to the guitar has earned him a spot with Greg Smith (current Bass player with Ted Nugent) whose latest project is the High energy Classic Rock Band “Off the Road”. Off the Road consists of world class players, Chuck Burgi, Greg Smith, Phil Varca and Tommy Byrnes.John also plays shows with Legendary Rock vocalist/Guitarist Derek StHolmes.
