Broken Anatomy was started in November of 2011 by 19 year old musician Samantha Smith. After her last band fell apart, Samantha (originally trained only as a vocalist) picked up the guitar and drum sticks and set out to "make [her] own damn music." By March, the Debut album, A Shadow Deemed Worthy, was released to the public featuring Samantha on Drums, Guitars, Synth, and of course Vocals.
Released to rave reviews, with sites like Doomantia rating it a 9/10 and calling it a must have, to Doom-Metal.com calling the music "possibly the first real evolution of death/doom since it spawned gothic metal in the 90's", Broken Anatomy was making waves. After an ever-revolving live lineup finally called it quits before even playing a single show, Samantha went back into the studio to record the Avant-Garde EP Freedom Within. After that, it was back to the grind as Samantha began writing and recording her most ambitious (and admittedly haphazard) release to date, the second Full Length recording The Obsession. When asked what she thought of The Obsession, Samantha replied "I'd rather forget I ever wrote it. Chalk it up to a kid too high on their own ego to realize she put out a poorly written, poorly produced collection of shit that should have never seen the light of day. And you bet full well I'm not wasting that goddamn artwork either."
Released on January 1 2013, the next chapter in the Broken Anatomy saga saw Samantha turning more towards Funeral Doom, with the EP Nightmares from an Unremembered Age. With review sites like Loud-Stuff saying "The final moments here are amongst my personal favourites from all of the Broken Anatomy stuff I’ve heard", and Verbicide Magazine stating "the supposedly nice woman who performs this possesses one of the most feral, disturbing death growls you are likely to hear", and calling the EP "tortured, forlorn and very disturbing", Samantha was ready to push forward with more.
Samantha is currently recording the 3rd Broken Anatomy album with the help of new member Stuart Prickett, with those who's had an early peek calling it monstrous, monolithic, and reminiscent of Disembowelment.
Drawing on varied influences such as Soilent Green, EYEHATEGOD, Down, My Dying Bride, Dark Castle, Novembers Doom, Six Feet Under, and others, Broken Anatomy is pure, brutal doom.
