The Simon Henneman Quartet plays original music inspired by classic jazz and blues. Music deeply rooted in swing and blues, yet at the same time distinctly modern, fresh, and unexpected.
Simon Henneman Quartet consists of some of the most experienced, tenacious, and finest creative musicians in Seattle: Simon Henneman, Kenny Mandell, John Seman, and Mark Ostrowski.
Simon Henneman is a Seattle based composer and multi-instrumentalist who has been active in the Seattle, greater northwest, and central FL creative music scene for over twenty years as a performer, a composer in residence for a modern dance group, a film and art music composer, a guitar instructor, and as a curator for a weekly jazz and improvised music session. He has performed hundreds of times throughout the USA and Canada.
Kenny Mandell has been teaching, performing, and recording in the greater nw for over twenty five years.He is the founder of Kenny Mandell Jazzworks, a music education program that provides private lessons on flute and saxophone, along with numerous small jazz bands under his direction. He has performed over the years with numerous jazz groups that he has founded or co-founded including: Second Nature, Voices, One Hand Clapping, The Creative Music Orchestra, Pagan Babies and presently Ronin 3.
John Seman is an active composer, producer, bassist, and archivist living in Seattle. He is co-founder and current director of the award-winning Monktail Creative Music Concern. John has produced five acclaimed albums on the Monktail label featuring his compositions and bass playing with the ensembles Non Grata, Floss, Special O.P.S., and Deal’s Number. John performs regularly with Ask the Ages, the Wally Shoup Quartet, Dennis Rea, and the Simon Henneman Quartet. He has previously performed with the Monktail Raymond Scott Orchestra, the Degenerate Art Ensemble and the Sun Ra Tribute Band. John also co-hosts the creative and improvised music program Flotation Device on 91.3 KBCS.
Mark Ostrowski is a composer and award winning drummer who has been active in Seattle for over ten years. He is a founding member of the Monktail Creative Music Concern. His compositions have been performed by Stephen Fandrich, Sean Owen, Matt Coe, Sadeeq Holmes, John Seman, Izaak Mills, And many members of the Monktail Creative Music Concern. Mark Ostrowski created “the Cabbage Foundation” in 1997 to explore experimental electronic music of all kinds, and to give younger musicians a chance to explore their instruments in totally improvised situations.
John and Mark have been working together as a rhythm section for over twenty years and are in all likelihood the most telepathic musical combination in Seattle.
