For Michael Boris, a 22-year-old drummer living in Nashville, Tennessee, music is not just a passion — it is his calling.
“I absolutely love it! I feel so exhilarated every time I play and I’m always eager to learn new things about my craft.” Boris said.
After graduating from Belmont University in 2011 with a degree in Commercial Music Percussion with a Music Business Emphasis, Boris considers himself blessed to have studied under Zoro, a legendary drummer who has performed with artists such as Lenny Kravitz, Frankie Valli, Bobby Brown and many others.
During his time at Belmont, Boris had the opportunity to open for The Charlie Daniels Band and tour with the prestigious university group Company.
He worked as a production assistant on the 2010 Winter Jam tour with top Christian artists such as the Newsboys, Third Day, Fireflight and many others. He also interned at one of the top Christian management companies in Nashville, Proper Management.
Nick Barre, one of the artist managers at Proper Management says this of Mike, “Mike is an incredible talent that has tons of potential to impact the music industry. His passion for music is over surpassed by his passion to love others well,” said Barre.
But for him, there is more to performing than just fame or the rush of applause.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about glorifying God,” Boris said. “When I am performing, I just let what’s in my heart come out, so that people can see Him through my playing” he said — a fitting statement from a man who believes his job as a drummer is to be the heartbeat of the band.
Boris takes that job seriously and he hopes to continue strengthening that heartbeat throughout his career. As a mission statement for his life, Boris said, “I’m open to whatever God wants me to do. ‘I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. – Philippians 4:13’”
