A great band out of Las Vegas, Nevada, Whiskey Breath is an excellent blend of Americana, Southern Rock, and a little bit country. This band will have you stomping your feet and dancing on tables! If you’re fortunate enough to see Whiskey Breath live, you’re taking home an experience that will stay with you forever, and keep you coming back for more!
Whiskey Breath was born back in the summer of ’08. Brandon Madejek (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Chris Snipes, Jr. (former bass, drums) were hanging out, when a bottle of Jim Beam told them it would be a good idea to record their own version of Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats”. The two played around with other cover-tunes, and a few songs that Brandon had written in college, just to pass the time.
After a night of drunken karaoke at a local bar, Brandon approached the manager about bringing “his band” in to play for a night, completely disregarding the fact that he didn’t actually have a band, or enough material to fill an entire night. Surprisingly, the manager said yes. Realizing that at this point all they had were two original songs and a Carrie Underwood cover, they enlisted the help of Lahm Dutro (lead guitar, vocals, harmonica, guitjo).
As a warm-up for their ‘big debut’, the three played for the first time as a group at a 4th of July party. Armed with just two original tunes, and ten poorly arranged covers, the string trio powered through the first gig. Over the next year and a half, they practiced hard, added more songs to the set list, and brought in Chris Snipes, Sr. on drums.
As time progressed, for personal reasons, Chris Sr. decided to leave the band. In May of 2010, Chris Jr. moved over to drums and recruited his friend, bassist Justin Sane to fill the void. The newly refreshed crew began rehearsals, learning new covers and writing more originals. Lahm Dutro was quoted as saying “This [line-up] really steps up our game”. The 4 continued on for nearly a year, gigging regularly, winning hearts, and building up a following of loyal fans.
Before long, Chris Snipes Jr. would face the making of a difficult decision. One between his day job and continuing on with the band he had helped found, and loved so much. Citing an offer he couldn’t refuse, Chris moved out of state and the band was left with the difficult task of filling his shoes.
Enter Steve Housewright.
Steve ‘House’ Housewright was a sound engineer at a local club, and had done sound for the band in the past. He also happened to play the drums. Whiskey Breath had been contracted to play a few gigs prior to Chris’s decision to leave the band. Seeing that the boys were in a pinch, House agreed to sit in and help them fulfill their obligations.
Without any rehearsal at all, the three played their first gig with Housewright. House having been an accomplished percussionist, and along with the help of a few subtle cues from Brandon, the gig went off without a hitch. Afterward, the band immediately asked Housewright to join. Unfortunately, House was already involved with two other projects and was unavailable.
Whiskey Breath continued on auditioning drummers, playing a few gigs here and there, but was unable to find a suitable replacement. After an unfortunate incident, Whiskey Breath was forced to play a show with no one behind the kit. The next day, with another gig to play that evening, the band once again called up Steve Housewright. At this point, one of the projects he was involved with had come to an end. Again, the boys asked him to join. Steve is now a permanent member of Whiskey Breath.
