Trey and Jennifer started pursuing a dream as big as their home state of Texas back in 2011. Having grown up around each other, and both being involved in music all their lives, it was a natural thing when they got together and decided to be a country duo. After playing shows in Dallas, Texas for a while, they soon realized that their path was leading them to Nashville.
Smithfield moved to Music City in the summer of 2012, and began writing and playing in a feverish attempt to attract some attention. A “ten year town” was a hard concept for Trey and Jen to grasp, and it pushed them to work harder every day. Exactly 12 months after they moved, all of their hard work paid off when they signed their first contract with Bigger Picture.
Country duos are a unique breed in the music industry. Two voices have to blend perfectly, and that combination is often hard to find, even in two great singers. Trey came from a heavily rock influenced musical background, however his southern roots, and passion for music made the transition to country music effortless. Jennifer, having sung in many competitions and Texas Oprys starting at a very young age, grew up listening to country music greats such as Leann Rimes and Faith Hill. For her, there was nothing she wanted more than to sing country music. Unlike many duos that are put together by labels and managers, Smithfield was an obvious choice for Trey and Jen from the start. With their spot-on harmonies, infectious stage presence, and natural chemistry, they stand out as one of country music’s true vocal duos.
