There is a different kind of music that comes from experiencing sorrow. It has a depth of meaning and purpose that touches the heart far beyond the surface. Sheila has walked through a personal battle with leukemia as well as struggled through difficult events requiring much forgiveness. Through all of that Sheila Ann Smith’s story is filled with the grace of God from the very beginning. Because of her mother's troubled pregnancy, the doctors felt she shouldn't have survived, but God had a different plan, a plan for music and a message that would touch the hearts and lives of people.
Once a little girl singing in the garden and making up her own songs at the piano before she could even read, she now shares a message of hope, her love for God and the beauty of music with audiences. Her soaring vocals are at times rich and smooth and at times crystal-clear and pure. The much-anticipated debut release Dreams Can Soar features music ranging from soft pop and easy-listening to blues and jazz-infused tracks.
Dreams Can Soar reveals a rich tapestry which draws upon Sheila’s life story for inspiration. The ballad “How Can I Say Thank You” was written for her bone marrow donor and is a reflection of the beautiful gift of life and each precious day we are given. From the energetic and bold statements in “Ain’t No Doubt” and “Ready”, to the intimate hope of the latin-infused jazz track “Heal My Soul”, to the soaring melodies of “Never Alone,” this album will take the listener on an inspiring journey of life and love.
Dreams Can Soar is available from select Canadian and US retailers and online at www.sheilaannsmith.com
Recently while in Peru as a Compassion Canada sponsored artist, Sheila shared her songs in English and Spanish as she told the story of God’s healing in her life. Because of the grace she’s received, she has a heart to share with people in need of hope and healing, and her music shines with that desire. She states, “I am very excited that my music has been used to bring new hope to people of all ages.”
Sheila is a dynamic speaker as well and has shared her music and her story in many different denominations including Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Calvary Chapel, Lutheran, Mennonite, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Salvation Army, and Vineyard congregations. She draws from the depth of a passionate heart for God, a love for the Word of God, her struggles through cancer and experience as a worship leader and pastor.
