Nassaw Tate is a Philadelphia artist that first appeared on the music scene in mid 2005, playing various intimate venues throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware.
At the beginning of 2007, Nassaw formed the hard hitting punk trio 'The Rooftops'. The group quickly gained notoriety for their raw and honest sound, striking a meaningful chord with blue-collar society in particular. Later that year, with producer Dan Malsh at the helm, The Rooftops entered Soundmine studios to begin recording their first album. The debut LP 'Hope on the Streets' was released in January of 2008 and received high critical acclaim.
Along with the release of 'Hope on the Streets' was the birth of 'drunk rock records'. DRR is a label which was created as a way to help brand the essence of Nassaw's artistic visions- well beyond it's sonic boundaries. Nassaw recently obtained full control of the label, which was initially equally vested by the original Rooftops line-up.
Nassaw released a collection of solo home recordings entitled 'The Many Sides of Nassaw Tate' in the late November of 2010. In this first solo effort, Nassaw paints a colorful picture that truly encompasses his wide variety of musical influences. This compilation is currently available exclusively through iTunes.
Using only a small arsenal of hardware comprised of drum machines, keyboards, and guitars; Nassaw creates his music the "old fashioned" way. Software is almost never used, as he is much more interested in creating his art with as much of a hands on approach as possible.
On Nassaw's soundcloud.com page, you will find an eclectic variety of music from both his band and solo efforts alike. New tracks will be added frequently, as well as the occasional free download for your enjoyment.
A new album is currently in the works as of March 2011, and is anticipated to be released sometime in late 2011- early 2012.
