The Hela Cell(THC) is an American rock band based in Cincinnati Ohio. THC is known for their Alternative, post-punk, hard rock, garage blues, neo-psychadelic sound. They are influenced by bands such as Public Image Ltd (PIL), Killing Joke, Filter, The Clash and Joe Strummer, and The New York Dolls, as well as The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Neil Young.
The Hela Cell formed in 2010, taking its name from the tragic story of Henrietta Lacks. Guitarist/Producer Dave Glasser and Singer/Multi-instrumentalist Dan Hall are the core of THC. They have been playing music together since the late 70's when they formed their first band; The F*cking C*nts. They went on to play in two other bands together; Activate and Sniff the Whip.
Many years and many bands later Glasser and Hall met up at a party and made plans to record some of their old songs and some of each others new songs - The Hela Cell was born.
Soon Glasser enlisted the talents of his friend and master- of- noise Justin Patrick. Within 6 months the first THC CD was completed; featuring funky punky songs juxtaposed with ballads, straight up rockers, a few "darker" songs and lots of classic blues-rock inspiration.
Keeping the momentum going into 2011, THC have brought Jon Allen, Katie Hall and David Lynch into the fold - producing their 2nd CD_ The State of the Republic. The additional talent has expanded and refined the THC sound, incorporating more exotic sounds, female vocals and even more attitude
