The local rock scene in SA is growing and the city has opened up many new businesses offering a night of live music, with local bands performing generously! There is much talent in Texas and hoping to get their music out and heard is Breaking Boundryz. These young musicians (with their thought out riffs, power chords, catchy lyrics and crisp alternative sound) will have you coming back for more.
In the first year of performing, 2010, the band strived to make a name for itself locally. The band was asked to perform at different venues across the city, and also performed for private parties, church festivals, pubs/grills and car shows. Eventually bigger venues invited the band to perform for them, such as one very popular event in the city called UNA NOCHE DE LA GLORIA-Contemporary Art in the Cultural Zone (an event for local artists around the city), CLICK'S LIVE-SCHOOL OF ROCK SHOWCASE, JAVELINA HARLEY IN BOERNE, TX., SOUNDSTAGE -ALAMO MUSIC CENTER, PACFEST -PALO ALTO COLLEGE, PAPA WOODY'S ROADHOUSE, and also NOMINATED as KENS-5 TV- "EXTRAORDINARY KIDS" and were asked to perform live for a nationwide audience. It has been challenging for them because there are thousands of bands out there, all trying to get their own music heard and that is what keeps these young artists motivated and ready for any challenge.
Unfortunately, the music came to a standstill in 2012 when there was a major setback for the band members. Mark (lead vocals/ rhythm guitar) was diagnosed his senior year with a brain tumor. It was a devastating blow to the young band which was playing almost every weekend, and up to 3 times a week. Although this was a terrible turn of events, Mark continued to play with the band making a remarkable comeback after just 4 months from his 3rd and last surgery. . Upon returning to the music scene in late 2012, Breaking Boundryz competed in their first Battle of the Bands competition and took first out of six other very talented bands. This motivated the band to start writing more music and want to continue to work harder. Not knowing what the future had in store, little did they know it would only get better.
In October 2013, the band received some exciting news from the MakeAWish family, Mark’s request to live like a rock star was going to be granted and that not only him but the band would be sent to NY to meet Papa Roach, Mark’s favorite band. The week in NY was one that the band would never forget, meeting new people, going to beautiful places and the most exciting, meeting and recording with Papa Roach! The band was able to work on a four song EP with Papa Roach in the studio! If it wasn’t enough that the band met and recorded with Papa Roach, the band was given exciting news the last day of their trip that Eleven Seven Music (Papa Roach’s Label, would not only market and promote the EP but would like to have Breaking Boundryz as part of their label. A dream come true for the band! The EP will be released sometime in early 2014, and with the help of Eleven Seven Music, the band hopes to continue to build a huge fan base all over the world, and for the fans to enjoy the originality of the songs that they themselves create.
For Mark (vocals/guitar), Adri (bass), Ben (drums), Bethany (keyboard/vocals), Brandon (Lead Guitar), and the newest addition to the Breaking Boundryz family, manager Michael Hernandez, music is a huge part of their lives. Practices are very productive and all members of the band bring their own personal ideas. The band keeps a positive outlook on the road ahead; they believe that they have to keep working hard to achieve their dreams of making it big! With the help and support of family, friends, fans and the great man above, these young artists will accomplish anything they set out to do!
