“Watching a video about a 5-year-old Pennsylvania girl who died from cancer made Jay Boland ’98 cry. It also sparked him to put together a fundraising concert to help raise awareness of childhood cancer. He did so with the help of his JCU roommate, Arthur Mroczek ’98, the national marketing director for Live Nation Los Angeles. The video Boland viewed was about Gabriella Vogel, who died from a rare form of brain cancer in September 2011. Her parents, John and Carolynn Vogel, formed The Get Well Gabby Foundation in her honor and memory. The nonprofit organization’s mission is to fund research and raise awareness for childhood cancer and assist families that have been given such devastating news.”

“Get Well Gabby benefit, Sigur Ros, a John Denver look- and sound-alike and Los Lobos! (Critic's Picks: Sept. 13-19) Gabriella Vogel was 5 years old when she died of a rare form of brain cancer, Diffuse Intra Pontine Glioma (DIPG). The symptoms began to show up around Memorial Day of 2011, and on the 10th anniversary of the American tragedy that was 9/11, Carolyn and John Vogel suffered a parent’s greatest loss. Cleveland musician and financial analyst Jay Boland has organized the second annual Believe in a Cure concert at the Cleveland Agora, 5000 Euclid Ave., at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, that will benefit the Get Well Gabby Foundation. The Gin Blossoms – “Hey, Jealousy,’’ “Found Out About You’’ and “Follow You Down’’ – will headline the show. Also slated to perform are the Jay Patrick Boland & the Members Only Band, the Allen Ilg Band and Hudson native Matthew Knabe.”

“When the Gin Blossoms first formed in Tempe, Ariz., some 25 years ago, the Phoenix suburb was producing bands that had a certain style. Some critics called it the "Mill Avenue sound" in honor of the city's main drag where a slew of clubs catered to college kids by presenting up-and-coming bands.”

“When John Carroll University alumnus Jay Boland ‘98 watched a YouTube video posted by his former Hudson, Ohio next-door neighbor who had later relocated to Pennsylvania, he was moved. Moved so much that he decided to take his passion for music and experience in finance to fund a benefit concert at one of Cleveland’s most thriving entertainment venues: The Agora Theatre and Ballroom.”

“Hudson -- Friends who graduated from Hudson High School two years apart are reuniting for a benefit concert Sept. 13 to raise money for research and awareness for childhood cancer. Jay Boland, of South Euclid, a 1994 HHS grad, and Matthew Knabe, of Stow, a 1996 HHS grad, have put together the second Believe in a Cure Concert for the Get Well Gabby Foundation. The 6:30 p.m. concert at the Cleveland Agora, 5000 Euclid Ave., will feature the Gin Blossoms, and Pat McGee. Boland's band, Jay Patrick Boland and The Members Only Band, and Knabe, will also perform.”

“Jay Patrick Boland and The Only Members Band, Matthew “Lig” Knabe and The Allen Ilg Band, presented a night of live music Saturday at JB’s to raise money for the Get Well Gabby Foundation.”
