Those Manic Seas is a 'four' piece band that attempts to push the boundaries of what a rock band should be. The band hails from Richmond, VA and combines elements of post-rock and shoegaze in order to create unique songs that leave the entire audience dancing.
"There are a plethora of factors that go into making a band successful, but when you really start the discussion of what makes a band prosper, you'll find yourself circling around three tangible attributes associated with a truly great band. The first is obviously pure musical talent, followed closely by true uniqueness that sets them apart from the pack. The final, and oftentimes most overlooked, attribute is a tough work ethic, driving the band no matter what happens. Plenty of Richmond bands have these qualities in varying amounts, but no band currently exemplifies all three of them more than Those Manic Seas.
Their indeed-unique lead singer, Kilroy--a towering mannequin delivering his vocals from the screen of a television that sits atop his shoulders--has become the element for which they’re best known." - Doug Nunnally/RVA MAG '14
In December of 2012, the band went to Sound of Music Studios and recorded two songs with Alan Weatherhead. The 'Headache/Heartache' 7" record was released on 05.28.13. In support, they have toured in cites such as Manhattan, Boston, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Charleston, Roanoke, Raleigh, Charlotte, NYC and New Haven. Those Manic Seas have performed at The National (1500+ capacity venue in Richmond, Va) twice. One of which was aheadlining show with overwhelming success. They have also shared the stage with bands like MewithoutYou, Broods, Nightmare & The Cat, The Griswolds, Peelander-Z, The Features, Shinobi Ninja, Black Girls, Chalk Talk, No BS! Brass Band and many more.
In March of '14, they signed a record deal with Angry Pirate records. They are currently in the process of recording their first full-length record with a tentative release time of fall '15.
The band consists of drummer Daniel Medley, bassist Todd Baker, guitarist Drew Rollo and a not so typical singer. “Our ‘lead singer’ is not a real person, which makes an interesting show,” says member Daniel Medley. “And if the singer doesn’t make sense, coming to our show will clear it all up. We really are a live band.”
