Taller Than Trees is made up of two very tree-normous individuals, in fact, Taller Than Trees isn’t just a creative name, but it’s a very honest one at that. These Tree-normous individuals are known as non other then Luis Mendoza, a twenty two year old singer/songwriter from Fontana California, who is loving the music he is creating, and Travis Hirsch a 24 year old extrodinary drummer from Rancho Cucamonga who is providing the driving beats.
Currently having a new full length under his belt, titled, Jelly Town meets the Muskrat Kids, Luis Mendoza and former member Tasha Abbott have managed to create some sort of buzz, getting constant feedback on their social network sites (all links can be found on this page). Since the two separated and went their own ways in mid 2010, Luis Mendoza has been on a constant writing streak, writing new music for his upcoming sophomore album that should be released late next year. (2011)
The Tree-normous musician, Luis Mendoza is known for his creative approach he has on music. He believes that music has no boundaries nor limitations on what you can and cannot do. “They're no rules with music, no strings attached. The jam bam room is a place where you can be you. You can scream, laugh, cry and sigh; Moreover, you can write what you feel at that given moment, and shouldn’t feel obligated to change the song to better suit the band name” said Luis Mendoza to the Movement Media team in his interview with them earlier this summer (June 2010). Luis Mendoza has managed to write music that he likes, and isn’t afraid to be different. Don't be surprised to hear that his set list differs from one song to the other. This Tree-normous artists is having fun with what he is doing, and will continue to do it, until the forest is all cut down. (God for bid that will ever happen)
Taller Than Trees once was a boy/girl duet, that suddenly came to a stop. “Tasha and I went our separate ways, we didn't leave on "bad terms" we just felt it was time to part. She wanted to pursue a different path, and I support her in her decision. We still remain friends.” said Luis Mendoza to the Inland Empire Weekly.
Luis Mendoza, then joined forces with Travis Hirsch in late 2010 and they immediately knew they had something to work with. Together the duo began to work on songs Luis Mendoza has been composing on his own for quite some time. "Im real grateful that Travis is apart of this project now, he brings the best out of me, and we work very well together. We have a unique way of writing songs, but its been working for us, and its a cohesive effort. We both enjoy the music, and look forward to playing live. Its fun, just the way it ought to be!" Said Luis Mendoza.
Taller Than Trees is made up of many mysteries. They sing songs from their travels into their deepest part of their dreams, and they speak of things that would leave you at ease. They sing, They yell, They whisper and They tell; stories and poems that are all very swell. Beware, beware, for their sweet catchy tunes could leave you in awe, once the CD is over don't hesitate to repeat it over, and repeat this method until all their songs are stuck in your head.
When listening to the tunes of Team Trees, be aware that it’ll make even the darkest day flare. This music will give you goose bumps up and down your spine; it will keep your eardrums dancing around every time. They have hymns and melodies that have the wind talking, and has the earth moving to the beat of the bass drum.
