Jerry T. Yates is the winner of the "2008 Roots Music Association Gospel Artist of the Year Award".
Jerry is a singer/songwriter/acoustic guitarist, who puts Christian Lyrics to Country Blues and Rockabilly music. On some of his promotional material, sent out by Tate Music Group, it says,"If you put a little bit of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Lightnin' Hopkins into a butter churn and churned them all real good, then stop and immediately pour it out, you'd pour out Jerry T. Yates."
One of Jerry's songs, "There's Peace From the Lord" debuted at #14, on the Roots Music Report chart, and it stayed in the top 30 for a total of 58 weeks. This same song was #1, two months running, on the Georgia Roots Radio Airplay Chart. All of Jerry's songs are almost constantly on the European Country Music Association's big chart.
Originally from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Ashe County, North Carolina, Jerry's family moved to the small town of Fairburn, GA. in 1961.
Jerry formed and played in various rock 'n' roll bands throughout high school. Upon graduation, he performed in Country/Rock bands, and in the late 70's he even became a popular Elvis impersonator.
In 1975, Jerry was saved, and in 1978, he was called to the ministry, and formed a Contemporary Christian/Christian Country band called "Chosen Vessels".
In 1982, Jerry was ordained into the Gospel Ministry. He began performing solo, in 2003, and his last two CD's have both yielded charting singles, including his newest CD, "The Point of No Return" on the Tate Music Group label.
