Nicholas Bogosian / Bio

Nicholas Bogosian takes audiences down a revelatory path of the enduring soul of early American mountain music. His solo style replete with clawhammer banjo, fiddle, foot percussion, and voice surprises with buoyant energy, frenetic joy, and an intimate sorrow. He fell in love with old time mountain music after spending a summer in the North Georgia foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It was there, in 2007, that he began his mentorship with John Grimm, banjo player and fiddler of “The Georgia Potlickers.” Back in Houston, Texas (his hometown) he formed the old time stringband “The June Apples” where they played numerous hootenannies and frolics around the city. In 2009, he moved to the Ohio Valley and began to hone his skills as a solo musician there. The summer of 2010 brought him a variety of gigs around the Ohio Valley, including a regular artist spot on the nationally renowned Wheeling Jamboree Radio Show. After arriving to Massachusetts (summer 2011), Nicholas quickly gained a footing in the North Shore music scene, having played at the Topsfield Fair, The Middle East Corner Room, Studio 99, the Newburyport Labor Day Festival, and featuring various open mics including Tupelo Music Hall, The Back Page, All Asia, & Walnut Street cafe. Nicholas's first studio album 'Song of Jubilation' - an album of mostly original tunes, will be released by WholeMusic April 2012. Nicholas describes his approach to performing, "I have to let the spirit of the music take over when I play. There's a very vivid and tangible feeling to the music that has a way of catching people by surprise like it did to me when I went to my first banjo lesson. I love to see people catching that spirit for the first time."
