I've loved music all my life (that’s me and my Dad circa 1972 on my “Indoctrination” cover.) I picked up a guitar sometime in 1986 and started banging around on it, and haven’t ever (totally) put it down since. (A guitar has) 6 strings and just 12 notes, but you can get lost in it forever (Leo Kottke).
I literally like just about any type of music, but I prefer stuff with guitar in it. I’ve gone through phases of listening primarily to Folk, Classical, Metal, Rock, Country, & Bluegrass (somehow pretty much in that order), but over the past few years have been listening to the Blues almost exclusively.
I like to improvise on guitar, and can barely play the same thing once (paraphrasing B.B. King). I've always written music (even early on) and a couple of years ago stumbled onto the concept of recording it with a computer. I didn’t know any other musicians at the time, so I bought a copy of Cakewalk®, and became my own “band”. Consequently, except for the drum tracks (when I use them) the guitars, bass, crappy vocals, and other instruments are all me.
Some interesting facts about me:
I’m related to both General Stonewall Jackson and President Andrew Jackson.
My Mother is a Preacher.
I’m of Swiss/German/Cherokee descent. (It’s pronounced BOFF-MAN.)
There was a Baughman fort in Greenbrier County, WV in the 1780’s. One night after a skirmish between the Baughman’s and the local Indians, the Indians covered the path leading from the fort with briers and then proceeded to set fire to the fort. When the Baughman’s ran out of the fort to escape the fire, they ran onto the briers and the Indians killed 8 of them. It was known at the time as the “Baughman Massacre.”
In 1994, I got married on my lunch hour, and then went back to work. I've stayed married.
I have actually stood on a corner in Winslow Arizona (Eagles reference), but I didn't see anything terribly interesting.
