Call For Fire / Bio

Taking the immense musical creativity of the 70s and pairing it with the smashing alternative grooves of the 90s, Call for Fire brings back the genuine hard rock sound in a modern, refreshing light. Lead singer Stephen Schwartz, guitarist Ian Dandridge, bassist David Scherzinger, and drummer Andrew Gabor take aim at your temples for every gig, bringing the chest-pounding rhythm and soul so desperately needed in today’s music. When the call for fire is initiated, the audience is in for a night of imminent rockin’.
Being unabashed in music and showmanship, Call for Fire cuts right to the chase with raw vocals, chunky guitars, and mighty drums. Listeners are sure to appreciate the solid R&B influences from the rhythm section, and the intricate guitar-driven melodies that put the music right in your face. Don’t fear their loud and proud style, they are committed to making their audiences dance, holler, and raise a glass in appreciation for the good times.
Schwartz’s vocals can only be described as his own, ranging from deep clean-cut notes to wild growls and shrieks reminiscent of Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder. His engagement with the audience is top-notch, his lyrical content genuine, and his spontaneous antics hilarious; no one will feel like a distant spectator when he takes control of the mic stand. The recent addition of Scherzinger and his extensive knowledge of rock, jazz, EDM, metal, and R&B make him a well-seasoned musician, let alone a proficient bassist in all of these genres. His grooves by themselves will get the audience dancing, but combined with Gabor’s heavy-hitting drums and fat Afro-rhythms, concert-goers may find themselves drenched in a sweaty funk that will signal George Clinton to soar into the venue on his Parliament-starship and prepare for landing.
But it is Dandridge’s guitar work and character that puts this band over the top. His crafted and engaging solos are consistent highlights at every Call for Fire show. Dandridge’s utilization of influences ranging from the bebop legend Wes Montgomery, to the dirty southern twangs of Warren Haynes, makes him a respected local figure by other musicians and listeners alike. There is no guitarist of his caliber more modest and selfless about his talent; a true rarity in the NOVA music scene that makes Call for Fire a unique act.
