RawDre & GeniuZ are an electronic rap duo native to Los Angeles. "RawDre" is an inversion of the rapper's real name, Roddre. He says that his stage name describes him because the word "raw" can be defined as "unseasoned" which means that his art isn't dressed up in gimmicks or trends while "unseasoned" is also a joke about his relative lack of experience. "GeniuZ" is a play on the idea of being a "lyrical genius" switching the 'S' to a 'Z' not only as a nod to the first letter of his real name (Zeno), but also as a hint that he may not be as much of a genius as he thinks.
Compared to most Hip-Hop/Rap music, their sound is a lot more electronic, 8-bit sounding, and "dubstep-esque" as they like to say. With a style they dub "New Age Nerd", RawDre & GeniuZ aspire to bring unique, quality music to audiences worldwide for a genre that's begging for a breath of fresh air.
The duo has been performing since 2010. Since then, they've released "Space Invaders: The EP" in 2011, "Def To All Humans" in 2012, and in 2013, they released "Squirtle used Flamethrower!" which contains samples and inspirations from popular video games. RawDre & GeniuZ followed this by releasing an EP entitled "Level 4."
They each write their own lyrics. RawDre does almost all of the producing for the duo, while GeniuZ officiates most of their artistic design. The duo makes a point to do as much of the work themselves as possible in order to produce the most genuine and the best quality product they can provide. Citing influences such as Lupe Fiasco, Childish Gambino, Esperanza Spalding, and Danger Mouse, the duo transcends beyond solely hip hop inspirations.
