Carlos Barata is a 24 year old, solo acoustic singer-songwriter and performer from Bethlehem, PA, now residing in Salem, OR. With simplistic support by way of his guitar, Barata's strongest suits are soulful vocals paired with colorful, yet accessible lyrics that speak to and reminisce on styles of the motown and rock of yesterday, along with the pop and folk of today. His style can be most readily described as acoustic, alternative, with influences ranging from The Beatles to Jack Johnson, The Temptations, Black Keys, City and Colour, and more! In front of both family and strangers, from private parties to bars, festivals, weddings, and even ribbon-cutting ceremonies for restaurants and hair salons, he's had his fair share of experience on stage and in the spotlight sharing the stage with a variety of local musicians and international touring artists such as Austin Renfroe, Matt & Kim, Dispatch, and Brushfire Records' Matt Costa. One can also find Barata in his 4 seconds of glory on American Idol: Season 12, Episode 1.
As a toddler, Barata's first musical encounters took place in his dad's wine cellar, with him on guitar and his grandfather on concertina playing traditional Portuguese Fado. A Beatles fanatic years later, he picked up his dad's guitar (after breaking strings and destroying a few of them), and began learning simple chords – E Major was his first, and it's clear by way of his original music that he's loved it ever since.
Barata debuted his first album “Believe” in 2009, followed by his second “This State We?re In” just two years later. After a 4 year hiatus, Barata has crafted something special diving deep into himself and the personal experiences of those near and dear, coining his third and self-titled production "Carlos Barata" in September 2015.
