Garrett on Acoustic (GOA) may not be your common band/artist name, but it gets straight to the point. Acoustic music. While the name may be straight forward, his direct style is not so easy to pin down. This is not your typical acoustic sound. With influences coming from genres such as indie, ska, punk, reggae and soul it all seeps in to a unique and occasionally aggressive rhythmic sound.
Garrett's history of performing dates back to 2000 when he started his punk-ska outfit 'Insufficient Numbers' out of Orlando, FL. Prior to splitting up, Garrett had the privilege to play with bands such as Voodoo Glow Skulls, The Supervillains, Against All Authority, Spitvalves, Big D and the Kids Table and many more big names in the genre.
Now as an acoustic artist, Garrett holds true to his roots while embracing his growth as a singer, musician, and a person. GOA sings about his personal struggles, frustrations, and ambition that so many of us can all relate to in our everyday lives. This past year, GOA won a fan voting contest held by Jacksonville's My DX Radio. The result of winning has given GOA multiple in studio appearances and performances on air. In addition, Garrett has performed at major events such as the 2013 Florida Music Festival, Jacksonville's One Spark festival, and was the sole opening act for Rick Springfield at the world famous Florida Theatre in September 2013. GOA has also appeared on the local NBC and FOX affiliates in Jacksonville for interviews and performances.
Outside of music, Garrett on Acoustic has established a relationship with the March of Dimes organization. As a father to a 31 week premature baby, Garrett has gotten actively involved to help raise awareness and funding for additional research. In April of 2013 Garrett released his single "Always Been Stronger" which is about his son's NICU experience. GOA is donating proceeds from the sale of this song to March of Dimes. In addition to the recording project, GOA performed at the March for Babies walk held at the Everbank Field in Jacksonville.
GOAs song "Always Been Stronger" has received radio play from coast to coast including KLED 91.1FM in Los Angeles, CA, My DX Radio based out of Jacksonville, FL, and the Ed Tyll Radio show in New York. Grammy winning producer Keith Olsen recently reviewed "Always Been Stronger" stating the song is “well written” , has "great meaning" and "comes from a deep part of the human experience" .
In August 2012, Garrett on Acoustic released his first album 'Avenue of Progress'. The album flows from upbeat acoustic rock with attitude to melancholy ballads that dig deep into a soulful passionate tone. When you attend one of GOA's shows, you'll notice instantly that Garrett sings with major power, all while maintaining superb control. GOA has the ability to stretch his vocal range in a crisp and precise manner while delivering a unique tone. GOA is most definitely a refreshing take on acoustic music.
