There are many unique and special voices in music. But we have found a legend for the new college generation. The 23 year old singer and songwriter, Chyou, presents to us the epitomy of a classic voice that will never go out of style. Her raspy alto/soprano singing voice, smooth R&B flavor, and tough edged rap is guaranteed to leave you wanting more ear candy. Chyou, also known by her government name, Crystina, was born in Augusta, GA. As a baby her mother and father resided in College Park, GA, in the South Atlanta Area. Chyou began playing piano by ear at age 4, reading music by 6, writing poetry at age 7, and writing songs alongside her keyboard at age 11. Her pursuit as a professional studio singer began at age 16, with her recording and producing her first rap record. She is deeply influenced by Sade, Aaliyah, Monica, and many 90's R&B artists and girl groups. Chyou has been apart of two girl groups, both which had promising futures, but Chyou took another road as a solo artist and songwriter for other artists. She was crowned Miss Black Teen United States 2005 at the age of 15. Crystina's story is very inspiring with a history of alcohol abuse, poverty, homelessness, childhood trauma, domestic violence, also suffering from severe depression and anxiety. While going through these obstacles she remained faithful to her music and in turn her skills improved, due to immense strength and pain exerted through lyrics and notes. She chose the name Chyou which means the season of fall in Chinese. "I wanted a change I thought fall was the perfect season to express my current state of mind, and I am influenced by Chinese culture tremendously." On where she gets her style from, Chyou comments,
"I am inspired by the great story tellers, that's what I enjoy, getting people to listen to what I'm saying, and getting them to feel it as well." She is also a proffessionaly trained dancer working alongside Shane Sparks, Chuck Maldonado, Jacquel Knight (Single Ladies *Beyonce*) and receiving dance guidance from Fatima. She currently works and writes for top producers in the industry such as DreBeatz, Fallout Beatz, KE on the Track, and John McGee. With a quadruple threat as this young woman ChYou will be a hard act to follow!
