Singer / Songwriter Zaje'; born in Washington, DC and later moving to the inner-city of Chester, PA; has been singing since she can remember and writing since the age of 7. She knew from her first song, titled "Being Friends" (written with a few classmates), that music was her true calling, and has been answering that call for almost two decades. Zaje' sings every chance she gets, and writes songs that express her love of music. She likes to describe her music as "a kaleidoscope, with my music changing with the colors; no two designs being the same." She says, "I can get very bored with simple redundancy in anything, not just music; so, I like to constantly evolve myself and it shows through. I can be grungy and angry, sultry and seductive, positive and empowering - I'm a woman! It comes naturally!"
Not one to enjoy being contained, Zaje’ indulges in every aspect and genre of music that moves her. Rhythym and Blues, Pop, Hip Hop, Alternative – these can all describe her music, but Zaje’ believes she can move beyond the labels and just create music. In “F the BS”, Zaje’ delves into her dark persona, where a woman has been scorned. “I created ‘F the BS’ in a couple hours right after hearing the beat. The way it comes on is crazy and I wanted to convey that level of crazy in my song. Really though, my idea of it being portrayed is like a daydream, and I am just feeling this rage – and actually liking that I can be so emotional.” Yet she does a complete 180 when you hear “Love Zone”. “This was actually a song my husband and I did in 2008,” Zaje says, “and we recently came back to it and made it more modern. Our anniversary was coming up, the day before Valentine’s Day, and we said it would be the perfect song to release. Still emotional, but full of happiness and love this go around.” Zaje’ continues to push her limit of intensity with “V-Day Gift”, “Addicted to Your Love”, “Ya Business”, and several other songs that complete her self-titled album.
Zaje is inspired by the late greats Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson; Beyonce, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, adding "Any artist with a strong presence to match their talent and perseverance is inspiring, and I wish to be that powerful in someone else's life." Zaje’s soul-tinged, vibrant vocals paired with her bright, spot-her-from-a-mile-away personality make her the perfect candidate for the next big artist in today’s music industry.
Zaje' has been in numerous national singing events, including auditions for America's Got Talent, XFactor, and American Idol where the judge said she was "a powerful singer." Locally, she has had musical training, along with dance and drama, with the Darlington Fine Arts Company, participating in their shows as well as various community events. She also had the opportunity to audition in person, with the additional blessing to sing live on air on Jonesy In The Morning's radio show with former Philadelphia's Power 99 morning radio host, Ms. Jones.
To date, Zaje has been featured in WWS Magazine’s Independent Artist’s Spotlight; has been played on nationally broadcasted radio stations; is currently #70 on the Pop Charts for the entire Philadelphia Region; and has a fanbase in numerous states across the country. Her self-titled album is slated for a May 2012 release.
