Big Break is an on the rise North Carolina based rock band with a multi genre style, incorporating elements of surf, ska, funk, alternative, roots, reggae, and jam rock. Their influences from bands like Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Keys and even Steve Miller Band show in the artistry and song structure.
The band formed in 2011, and traveled performing all over the Carolinas to promote their first self-titled album, BIG BREAK. In 2012 a 5 song EP ‘CITY GIRL’ was released. Always brainstorming and creating new music, Big Break has hours worth of material on the burner and a third project to be released soon.
The band’s singer, guitarist, and songwriter is a powerful front man. Usually barefoot, crouching and bounding with energy and passion... In March of this year, David Myers was involved in a serious motorcycle accident, which left him paralyzed, and with a reconstructed hand. The band's recordings and shows were put to a halt, but Myers is recovering nicely and the band is ready to come back strong. David Myers has a confident voice, powerful moving lyrics, laugh out loud humor, and "get stuck in your head" melodies. He was an inspiration before and is even more so now. Past bass player, but now pianist, Alan Erickson, wows the crowds with his dual keyboards... electronic backgrounds to all out jams! Conga player, Ashley Honbarrier, brings additional percussion and vocals. Smooth at times and fiery at others. She is an energetic spirit and adds much character to Big Break. She has even debuted some of her original songwriting with the band. Drummer Shade Eury, is a force to be reckoned with. He takes the beat to a new level. Bass player Rex Baucom, is determined, devoted and motivated, funky bass lines and creative ideas. Recently added, Nate Perrell, has stepped in on additional guitar since the accident. His strums, riffs, and chops are just the right kind of filling... and he cuts loose shredding leads at just the right time. Together the band is incredibly complimentary to one another, and exudes passion and energy one hit right after the other.
