Michael Cody has been writing songs and performing since being a founding member of western North Carolina's White Water Band when a teenager in the mid 1970s. After a brief stint studying music (flute) at Mars Hill College and performing solo in various venues in the Asheville, NC, area, he moved to Nashville, TN, and spent the next 10 years writing songs for two different publishing companies and performing both with his band and solo. His songs were recorded by Gary Morris, Glen Campbell, Margaret Becker and others. In the early 1990s he moved back to North Carolina, where his band had a big local radio hit with "Thunder and Lightning." During the rest of the 1990s, Cody took a break from music to earn his BA, MA and PhD in English. After securing a teaching position at East Tennessee State University, he began performing again. He plays original compositions and original versions of his favorite covers drawn from the 30+ years of his musical career.
