Tony LaJoye’s unique sound consists of a cool fusion of Pop, Jazz, Blues and R&B. When performing solo, his catchy style of acoustic guitar looping and creative percussion supplements create a full-band sound with rich layers and a fresh rhythmic technique. In “Tony LaJoye Trio”, he rounds out his already expansive sound, performing lead vocals, lead & rhythm guitar, and steel drums along side Traverse City bassist Stu Ford, and West-Michigan drummer Matt Gibbons.
Tony is not only a talented singer-songwriter, but also an award-winning percussionist. His proficiency with guitar, piano, and steel drums are showcased in the debut Tony LaJoye Trio album, entitled "Thrive", which was release in 2013. The album was a criticle success, and was nominated for multiple WYCE Jammie Awards. His previous solo release, “Monster” received two WYCE Jammie Nominations, in 2010.
Tony has shared the stage with such bands/musicians as: Matisyahu, The Crane Wives, The Macpodz, The Werks, Backyard Tire Fire, Rootstand, An Dro, Levi Britton, and several other Michigan, as well as nationally touring artists. His solo work has been well received with audiences all throughout Michigan, and has been labeled "One to Watch". Tony brings a new flavor, with his own crisp originals, and a few unexpected covers. Whether he's on his own, or with "Tony LaJoye Trio", he always brings an outstanding performance.
