WYLD PARADISE: Newcomer Rock Band from Hamburg, Germany.
Tucked away in the nooks of Hamburg, Germany one can hear the beautiful sound of
rock music playing near the North Sea and Elbe River. Approximately 3,800 miles away from
New York City plays WYLD Paradise.
In October 2014, the dream of Ernesto, Tonjes, Dale, and Olaf finally came true. The
dream of performing in New York City!
WYLD Paradise was born on June 11, 2011. Tonjes, lead guitarist and backing vocals,
along with Dale, bassist, were both in a band together, Kamikatsura, before WYLD Paradise
was formed. The band googled the name “ WYLD Paradise” and found there was no other band
with that name; which they got after hours of brainstorming, along with Ernesto, lead vocalist.
As a matter of fact, it was Ernesto who got the ball rolling in the birth of WYLD Paradise.
Before the emergence of the band, Ernesto and Tonjes were working out at a gym in Quickborn
when Ernesto was talking to Tonjes of his dream to form a “rock project.” He didn’t know how to
go about it. He talked with Tonjes on advice. Tonjes knew Dale from his previous band and he
and Ernesto thought they could be a band together along with Dale, just needing a fourth
member as a drummer.
Before advertising a percussionist needed for a new upcoming rock band on an online
music board, Ernesto, Tonjes, and Dale sat together and thought about songs. Their very first
song, “Drift in Time” was completely written and in no time, played.
It was only three weeks until they found their drummer , Olaf. Now WYLD Paradise was
complete! They played their first gig that July at the Rock Am Pool Open Air Show. Other songs
they wrote included: Go Again, Trust, Pink Butt, Trap of Love, and Rock City within four weeks
and all on their 2012 album, Pink Butt.
“Drift in Time’” as told to me by Ernesto, “ is about a man who lives each day feeling like
a stranger in this time and fantasizes that he can reach his dream and see a better time in his
life because he still has faith that one day his dream will really come true; imagining the
achievement of the dream in the moment drifts him to a great place.”
Since their first gig, WYLD Paradise has been rocking northern Germany with its electric hard
rock and new acoustic unplugged sound. Their second album, NO EXIT, was recorded in Spain
and released on February 8, 2014 by Chezz Music label. WYLD Paradise wanted to raise the
bar and try something different, and they continue to raise that bar on NO EXIT.
Three months later their dream finally started to happen with their very first booking in
NYC( and first time in the United States!) at the Parkside Lounge Bar and Grill, booked for October 10, 2014. Additional bookings that followed were at Killmeyers Old Bavaria Inn, The
Full Cup (now known as the Hashtag Bar), both on Staten Island, NY. They also performed at
LIT Lounge in NYC and did a special presentation at a NY school that specializes in teaching
students with physical and/or developmental disabilities! WYLD Paradise is counting on more
gigs in the future in the United States and even globally!
In April 2015, Olaf left the band. GiannaMaria, who did backing vocals and percussions
with the band on the NY tour and on their second album, joined the band as the new drummer.
In August 2015, the band went to Denmark to record their third and most current album, “Behind
the Mirror.” It was finally mastered in July 2016. With no label, as Chezz Music went out of
business, the band is on a quest to locate a new label that will release and distribute their third
On “Behind the Mirror’” a song called “Modern Times” was written; first in its German
version, called “Heutige Zeit”; which translates to “Today’s Time.” This song is about fear,
confrontation , and discrimination. It is a telling story of how we need to be better people and
live peacefully amongst ourselves before it is too late, no matter who we are or where we are
from, and what we do in our lives. The single version is Heutige Zeit and the English
version,Modern Times,is on the full length album.
WYLD Paradise hopes to one day come back to the states after they find a label and
perhaps perform at the PreGrammy Awards Party in Los Angeles, California.
