The Shapeshifter Project was founded by Dale Dollar and Ben Nash in 2011 with the intention having some fun and writing original music. Riffs were being written and pieced together very quickly but Shapeshifter knew that finding a bassist that would personally and musically fit would be a challenge. We could only think of one person with the proper acumen for the job. That man was Nick Pappas and we knew from the first jam session that we had the foundation of Shapeshifter.
At this point the music began to evolve and morph into complex movements, brilliant riffs and melodic pieces but still lacked the glue to bring it all together. Shapeshifter needed a vocalist badly so the search became intense. After a year of searching and many auditions, Kyle Garner answered an ad and came to practice in the spring of 2012. We were excited from the opening note. The vocal range and musical ability to hear and project what the songs needed seemed effortless for Kyle. Everyone fit perfectly into place and Jason agreed to be the Shapeshifter front man.
The Shapeshifter Project strives to write music with more than an air of originality. With the many musical influences we share, we try to pay homage to those who have come before while maintaining our unique sound and style. We love playing and the eclectic quality of Shapeshifter provides an always growing atmosphere.
