Darrell Havard is a Mississippian by birth and has been working/living in the New Orleans area since 2009. He started at an early age on piano. In high school he took up guitar and continued studying jazz and classical guitar at the University of Southern Mississippi School of Music. After graduating from USM Darrell took up bass guitar to pick up extra work.
In an effort to play like one of his heroes, Charlie Hunter, Darrell discovered an instrument called the Chapman Stick. The Stick was a perfect fit for Darrell due to his background in piano, organ, guitar and bass.
He began his career as a Stickist in a national and international tour in Afroman's backing band in 2001. After the tour he performed with jazz/rock quintet Cookout, yet another tour with Afroman, and numerous other jazz, rock, funk, blues, hip hop and spoken word ensembles.
For 3 years, Darrell worked as a bassist on Bourbon St with B Street Benny, then Megatar with Jiggers & Tooters at Bourbon Live. He's now back in Hattiesburg freelancing and cooking up a Megatar project that has been brewing for years.
