Tia started singing as Toddler. Her Mother said she would be playing quietly until a commercial came on the TV & would then hop up & begin to sing the Jingles then go back to playing after they were over.
Growing up in Church, she developed a great love & appreciation for Music, as well as a passionate relationship with the Lord at a very early age. She developed a keen ear for music by listening to various genres and began toying around with a lap organ, which she received as a small child.
Tia was diagnosed with Severe Scoliosis at age 11 & wore a large back brace for a Year while going through puberty. This was devastating to Tia, largely because she was enduring terrible pain, but also because her body was changing & her condition was chipping away at her self-confidence. She underwent major surgery in 1989 in order to place Harrington Rods in her spine to attempt to correct the "S-Curve" deformity in her spine. It was not long after when Tia began to realize the calling on her life to Sing. She went on to sing in many Black Choirs as well as an Acapella Group as a Pre-Teen. She loved the rich Harmonic elements of Gospel Music & studied them closely.
Shy, nervous & very self-conscious...it was common for Tia to break out in hives or to notice her hands shaking so badly, one would think the Microphone would fall out of her hands. She was often centered out as the "White Girl in the Group" until her soulful voice would prove her presence there.
In 1996, Tia met DeShaun Jones, who would become her Husband at Trebas School of Recording Arts through a mutual friend. DeShaun would be instrumental in guiding Tia's music career through the years to come. By 1999, Tia was booked solid performing at Festivals, Churches & Events all around the GTA. She began songwriting more seriously & was given her first Demo FACTOR grant for her song, "The Time" which was Co-Produced by the late Haydain Neale, former Lead Singer for the BMG Band, JACKSOUL.
Some of the highlights of Tia's Choir Days include singing as part of the University of Toronto Gospel Choir at Massey Hall in Toronto where she sang Lead back-up's for the likes of Peabo Bryson, Roberta Flack & James Ingram. Tia also appeared as a Back-Up Vocalist on Hiram Joseph's Juno Nominated Album, "Speak Lord, to Me" as well as SONY Recording Artist, Kyprios Juno Nominated Album, "Say Something". Tia is familiar with performing Commercial Jingles & enjoys using her craft to create music of all kinds. More Recently, Tia appears courtesy of EXTOL Music as an Arranger & Back-Up Vocalist on Sonorous Recording Artist, Hoszia Hinds Demo EP, "On My Way" & is currently working as an Arranger & Backing Vocalist on Reggae Artist Jermaine Cowan's Second Album, release pending in 2013.
In 2002, Tia & DeShaun got married and by 2003, Tia became a Mother to a beautiful baby girl, and another baby girl in 2006, and another baby girl in 2009 which placed her Music Career on a hiatus. Tia gladly threw herself into full time Motherhood. She understood Family must be first. However Tia expresses she has missed the freedom of Songwriting whenever inspiration comes & her "home", the Vocal Booth. Tia is very familiar with loss, pain and sorrow...yet equally so with joy & happiness. Life has brought her both sides, and she transfers her experiences through her Music.
"All I ever wanted to do was create quality, positive music people can connect with, receive healing from and to change the atmosphere from hopeless to hopeful. I have never craved stardom or fame, but only want to use the gift God placed within me to change the hearts of others & write great music that sends a message of positivity & love"
Tia is now available to work again & is currently available for Session Work. She is also focusing on completing her own Demo EP which will showcase her unique ability to Arrange, Songwrite & sing a wide variety of Musical Genres.
Tia is best known for her ability to be quick in the Studio, great attitude, to take instruction & come up with Arrangements on the spot. Tia is capable of singing all harmonic parts & is rapidly becoming known for her 'Vocal Stacking' technique.
