My drum study started at age nine in Lunenburg MA public schools under the direction of Donald Loud and Rick Lowe. I purchased my first "Norma" brand drum set with paper route money in 1969 at age ten and by ninth grade was playing alongside the orchestra in "Guys and Dolls" and other high school musicals and by age 16 with the Worcester District Orchestra Mechanics Hall. During school I was awarded by the National Association of Jazz Educators and the Boston Jazz Society for outstanding musicianship and achievement.

Adult private study has been with several drum instructors including Carolyn Chaplin, Vinny Damaio in Nashua NH and the late Alan Dawson privately in his home of Lexington MA. Alan was a Master known to many of the greats including the late David Brubeck (Take Five) Alan was an influence on many great drummers including the legendary Tony Williams of Boston.
I have used Mike Johnston's linear drumming materials. Recently I have been using a library of teaching books forwarded to me from Joel Rothman out of New Jersey.

Drummers that have influenced me the most growing up were naturally Ringo Starr, then Drummer John Densmore of the Doors and Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys and many drummers of the 1970's. During my adult years of drumming development I have paid much attention to Dave Weckl- Jazz Fusion, Rick Latham-Funk RnB, Todd Sucherman progressive rock drummer for Styx.

I have experience drumming in Jazz, Rock n Roll, Rock, Pop, Rock-Tribute, R&B, Fusion, Concert, Marching, Brazilian, CCM and Gospel RnB. I am currently working with a Caribbean Steel Band while summering in ST John USVI.

I love to play and look for local opportunities to drum as much as I can just for fun and relationships with other players. When I'm lucky to be home in New Hampshire, I play with the Hudson and Nashua NH American Legion Marching, Concert and small group Jazz bands. I am the Ensemble leader of Karner Blue Music, a Jazz Standards Trio working gigs in New England.

Subj: Drummer par excellence
I want to introduce you to Brian Donaldson, a percussionist with me in the Hudson, NH, American Legion Band.
Brian is, in my humble opinion, one of the best drummers I have witnessed in my past 20 years playing in the New England area. He exhibits outstanding facility in many genres, and I hope you'll speak with him and visit his web site at
