ArtCrime is John Korchok (wind synth, sax and keys), Steve Orbach (percussion) and Bob Siebert (kalimba, circuit-bent Casio and piano).
Since their formation at the beginning of 2011, the musicians of ArtCrime have been developing a new genre of music: Electrojazz. Combining the haunting qualities of electronic timbres with the improvisational nature of jazz, Electrojazz is a moody modal mix. Some think they sound like Medeski, Martin and Wood, but more jazz-inflected.
Each piece transitions from light to dark, calm to crazy, or paranoid to revelatory. ArtCrime is a ensemble for people who love freely improvised music, but it's also a jam band for people who thought they hated jam bands and a jazz ensemble for those who don't get jazz. The ArtCriminals are veterans of the New York experimental music and jazz scenes.
All of ArtCrime's music is improvised. Every second. They took the standard charts, the scores, the lyrics, the chord changes you've heard uncountable times and they threw them away! They substitute their ears, their taste and their gut reactions to make music that springs out of this moment in time and no other. This music never existed before and never will again. Catch it while you can!
