Cecilia Ray - Singer and artist
Also nicknamed “The Voice” because of her strong and soulful expression.
In her early years opera and jazz music were very present in the house as her parents, especially her father, were a true music enthusiast.
But it all started at the legendary Adolf Fredrik School of Music in Stockholm Sweden.
She started to take private voice and drama lessons, mostly classical and musical repertoire but also within the jazz genre. 1983 she met a gospel singer in the American Church in Stockholm and started to sing in her gospel group. There she found her true expression!
Later that year she met a jazz pianist and after building on her jazz repertoire they performed at jazz clubs and private parties for a while. During that time she also met a songwriter and pianist who worked with a couple of friends in the “Commotion Studios” where they made music for movies, commercials etc. besides writing songs, and they needed a new voice. It didn’t take long before they started writing songs together. They met Peter Swartling at Richochet and started to collaborate and the success was a fact.
Her first single “Love Gives Guarantee” CNR Records in 1991 became a big hit and was followed by “Round n´ Round” the same year. 1993 she signed to the BMG Ariola/Soulfood label, with releases in Scandinavia, Europe, and Asia. Two more singles, “Freedom” and “Move On”, were released together with her debut album “Cecilia Ray”. The reception was great and her songs were played all over.
Her second album was only released in Japan and will be re-released with new songs and remixes under the title “Cecilia Ray – Revisited”.
While focusing on her family and her work as a successful vocal coach she has over the following years continued singing and making music in both small and bigger venues as a solo artist and with the gospel choir OneVoice.
Besides re-releasing her second album she is also recording for several releases with jazz material.
