Hailing from Durban's western suburbs, The Jack Labels are five mates doing what they love best...making music and having a damn good time while doing it!
The Jack Labels rose out of the ashes of long time friends and band mates, ( Steff and Brendan's) previous band, Zero Thirty One and before that the short lived, Bullet Tooth Tony.
In mid 2008 after losing three of it's members to the city of Cape Town, The guys thought, the Hell with this, let's just get a damn drum machine and we'll carry on making and recording songs as a duo. This idea, however did not make for a good Rock outfit, as drums and bass are a crucial element in any Rock n Roll band.
They soon enlisted fellow long time friend Malcolm Silver( Clone, Ankst ) to play bass and who in turn invited a friend of his, Paul Davidson to play drums. The whole idea at this stage, was still, just to jam and have fun. The idea to form a new band hadn't become a possibility as yet.
In the mean time Steff was playing in a Beatles tribute band as John Lennon with Dave Campbell (Paul McCartney), Paul Cassels (Ringo Starr) and Chris Van Reenen (George Harrison).
Chris had to quit the band due to other commitments and a replacement guitarist was found in the form of Jon Lee.
Being like minded and playing together quite well, Jon was invited to come for a jam with the as yet unnamed Jack Labels.
This is where the cohesion really took hold and the chemistry ignited. Realizing that they were a real band with actual potential, the guys started throwing out band names. The first of these was The Moondogs. ( One of The Beatles first band names was 'Johnny and the Moondogs') After an extensive google search, it turned out that there was already two bands on planet Earth with similar names.
This revelation upset Jonny to this day, as he was just about to get 'The Moondogs' tattooed on his back in big ass, bold script!
Eventually due to the fact that everyone in the band loves Black Label Beer and Paul and Steff's considerable love for Jack Daniels, one and the other was put together and The Jack Labels was born!
