My name is James, I am an old school shade tree musician from the hills of North Carolina. I moved out here to California about 13 years ago. My Uncle played music his whole life and was my primary influence, teaching me a few chords and turning me on to the likes of Uncle Walt's Band, Django Reinhardt, Bob Wills, and many others. This of course set the stage for my own interests as I pursued like music and similar styles like Doc Watson, Bill Monroe, Leon Redbone, Raymond Scott, Jorma Kaukonen, Peter Rowan, Tony Rice, John Prine, Gillian Welsh, First Aid Kit, Norman Blake, Lightnin Hopkins, Son House, Reverend Gary Davis, Loe Kottke, Andy McKee, Fleet Foxes and too many others to list. As most other normal people in the world, I was very much influenced by "main stream" music as well, Pink Floyd, Clapton, the Stones, etc. I inevitably found the great myriad of kick-ass 'sub-culture' music as well and immediately fell in love with bands like MC5, Black Flag, Misfits, Primus, Metallica, Sepultura, Bone Shelter, Slayer, Dead Milkmen and this list goes on and on as well. I find Acoustic music comes relatively easy for me. I stake no claim to be a musician nor a song writer. I find it therapeutic and most of the time I don't know what the fuck I'm doing. So here I am, messing around with Garage Band on my little Mac trying to see if I can piece together something for my friends and family. Posted are a few scratch recordings from my living room, I will hopefully have some more stuff on this interesting little page soon. Thanks for checking it out ya'll!
