Alternative Singer-Songwriter Shayna King’s new single ‘Calling You’ is set for release this August. Straight off the back of a nationwide tour and following the release of her critically acclaimed debut album, the new single shows a mature and developed side to King’s songwriting, inspired by her personal journey of “stepping out of your comfort zone to follow your passion.”
With a voice described as a “stunning mix between soft and powerful” (Streets of Colombo Blog) and top live/album reviews under her belt, this next installment also shows King’s side as a producer, having been self-produced alongside co-producer and engineer Nick Poortman at Christchurch’s Quicksand Recording Studio.
Kings debut album ‘The Day Is Young’ was released in December 2013 and was nominated for the prestigious 2014 Taite Music Prize, with the title track also selected as a semi-finalist in the International Unsigned Only songwriting competition.
The album debuted at #6 on the iTunes charts and reached the NZ Top 20 milestone during her New Zealand Tour in May, where it charted at #14 on the New Zealand Album charts and #9 on the IMNZ Independent Album Charts.
Having recently played support for New Zealand Artist-Collective ‘Fly My Pretties’, UK Legend ‘Nik Kershaw’ and Australia’s ‘Mark Wilkinson’, King also performs as a full-time artist around Canterbury, often gigging 4 or 5 times a week to support and develop her art full-time.
“Calling You” is released on the 18th August 2014 and available for digital download through iTunes, amplifier, bandcamp and more.
“There is a craftsperson at work... Memorable songs and an undeniably strong voice which could cross between an astute indie audience and mainstream.”
Graham Reid, Elsewhere Magazine
