Born and raised in the mid-west, I remember having an affinity for music as early as the 1st grade. Playing around on the little instruments my parents bought me as a child wasn't enough; I needed to put them together somehow, to mesh their unique individual sounds at the same time. Little did I know then...
Writing music has since-become a huge part of my life, and I enjoy it to the core.
In 2000, I graduated from the Conservatory of Recording Arts in Tempe, AZ, with a degree in Audio Engineering. I worked as an audio/video technician at a very nice studio in Boulder, CO, for a couple of years, working mostly on editing in post-production.
As technology became cheaper, and recording studios started shutting down, I decided to go back to school and broaden my knowledge. I received a BSBA in International Business from Avila University in 2005, and formed my music publishing organization,
J Kinney Music, in 2010.
Since 2005 I've performed across the country with my band,
The Brisbanes, an alternative-rock band based in Kansas City.
I am currently writing and producing music for film, television, radio and various other projects.
