What Great Fangs is a southern metal band comprised of five musicians that reside less than an hour outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Just several months after forming, the band stormed the Pittsburgh music scene by winning the 2011 Altar Bar Battle of the Bands. Since then, they have stayed as busy as possible and built a loyal fan base in the process. Despite several line-up changes, they have remained determined to continue making music. Although most of the members were strangers to one another upon forming, they have been writing music and working together as if they had known each other their entire lives ever since.
What Great Fangs delivers an intense sound through the use of intricate guitar work, a creative rhythm section, and a dynamic vocal range including everything from angry yells, deep growls, and high shrieks. With a seemingly endless well of diverse influences at their expense, ranging from Meshuggah to Garth Brooks and everything in between, the band strives to maintain a heavy style while simultaneously creating a unique and fresh sound. Although original and creative guitar riffs with some sexy twang are the lifeblood of What Great Fangs, they do not hesitate to incorporate any style into their music so long as they see fit. Crowd-engaging chants, soft interludes, and even the occasional odd-time signature are by no means off-limits to the band. The members have all had many years of live playing experience, but are often playing at the edge of their limitations, which undoubtedly creates an intense and unforgettable live experience. By combining solid song structure and heavy hooks, What Great Fangs writes music that somehow manages to keep you guessing and get stuck in your head at the same time, while also leaving it throbbing with a pain that can only be cured by listening to another one of their songs.
