Each member of dub district brings their own flavor to this melting pot of roots music, while sticking to the basic principles of purist reggae & dub. The heavy drum and bass foundation of JAH SHUN and MIKAI reinforces the consciously charged lyrics, sometimes sung and sometimes chanted by frontman and lead songwriter RAS DANIEL Touching on crucial issues that urgently need to be addressed in the world today, with the vision of spreading a message of love and unification of all people through Rastafari reggae music. Along with world-class guest musicians including Senegalese hand percussionists El Hadji Sene & Yaya Kambaye(Ko-Thi, Lucky Diop), or veteran keyboardist David Wake(De La Buena, Dub is a Weapon, Kings Go Forth), the result is an original combination of sound yet to be heard, with the atmosphere of a musical family affair! dub district continues to break down barriers and bridge the gap between the foundation of reggae and the present day!
With the growing buzz as the “new reggae cats from the midwest”, dub district has been featured in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Cue Section, and Northern Colorado’s Scene Magazine, and made many guest radio appearances from 91.7FM WMSE Reggae Vibrations in Milwaukee, WI to 92.9FM KJEE Reggae Soundclash in Santa Barbara, CA, to name a few. Jammin’ large outdoor festivals like the World’s largest music festival, Summerfest in 2008, 2009, 2010, and The 40th Anniversary of the Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Fest 2010; raising funds and awareness for numerous charity events including Haitian earthquake relief(Friends of the Orphans and Youthaiti), and ending genocide in Darfur, Sudan(Darfur Coalition of Milwaukee); dub district puts no less than every ounce of being into each live show, with the knowledge that positive music can make a serious impact on a local and global level.
